Edmund W. “Ted” Mulvehill, Jr. was born into a large Norwood family in 1954. Ted is a product of the Norwood Public Schools, a member of Norwood High School’s class of 1972.  Upon graduation, Ted enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving on Active Duty from 1972 through 1976.  Ted is an honors graduate/valedictorian of the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California which trained him to be an Air Force Intelligence operative, a linguist/interrogator.  Ted went on to serve in the U.S. Air Force Security Service.

Ted married Mary Lisa (Oliverio) , Norwood High School class of 1976, in 1983 and they are the proud parents of Erin and Kelly Mulvehill, who are currently enrolled in the Norwood Public School system.

In 1975, Ted joined the Norwood American Legion Post #70 and has served as Commander of that post many times. In 1995, Ted was named “Legionnaire of the Year”.  He has served on the Norfolk County District #6 Executive Committee since 1992.  He has served as District Chaplain, Norfolk County, since 1995.

Since 1980 Ted has been a member of the Veteran’s of Foreign Wars Norwood Post # 2452. He is the past chaplain and is a past member of their Board of Directors.  Since 1983, Ted has been a member of the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter #338, Nam Vets of Hyannis, as well as being a member of the Board of Directors and President of the Vietnam Veterans of Massachusetts, Inc. since 2003.  He has been a member of the Norwood Veteran’s Council since 1985 and has been Council President since 1997.  Being a member of AMVETS Post #1977 since 1999 and Disabled American Veterans, Chapter #90 for life, keeps Ted very busy.

What keeps Ted the busiest, however, is all that he does for others. He goes out of his way to help those who currently serve in the military, or who have served.  He comforts families of those on active duty, as well as for families of veterans from all eras.  He organizes support at home for those who are serving.  He organizes the placement of flags on light poles in Norwood Center to pay tribute to those who are serving in our armed forces and has raised thousands of dollars in contributions to place the names of those who have served in our Armed Forces on placques in Norwood’s Memorial Hall.

The Friends of St. Nick are proud to honor Ted Mulvehill as our 2005 Man of the Year.
