Bill Gurley and his wife, Mary, who are childhood sweethearts, are celebrating forty years of marriage this year. They are blessed with a daughter, Charlene and her husband, Tony Ross, a son, Michael, and his wife Allison, and a son, William Jr., his wife Karen and their two children.

Bill grew up in Boston, where he graduated from Bentley College. Mary and Bill moved to Norwood in 1973.  He began working for a private corporation as an accountant and worked his way up to being the President of the company for more than ten years until his retirement.  Mary has served the public as a nurse for many years.

Norwood Babe Ruth Baseball has benefited from Mr. Gurley’s service for many years. Bill has served in various capacities ranging from supervising 180 – 200 Norwood baseball players, 13 – 15 years old, raising funds for the program, contributing financially to the Babe Ruth program to assure that any ballplayer who wanted to play, was able to play, overseeing many town, district and state championships, serving as President from 1988 to 1999, and as District Commissioner of Babe Ruth Baseball for more than 10 years.

For all of these reasons, the Friends of St. Nick are proud to honor Bill Gurley as our Person of the Year.
