A true ‘native son’, George S. Usevich, fondly known as “GSU”, was born and raised in Norwood. He attended the Callahan School, the Norwood Junior High and graduated from Norwood Senior High School in 1959. In 1964, he received his Bachelor’s from Bentley College. He went on to earn his Master’s in Education Administration from Suffolk University in 1967 and a Master’s plus 30 from Boston College in 1972.

He began his career in education in 1964 as a member of the faculty at Medway High School. A year later, in 1965, George found his way home to Norwood High School as a teacher in the Business Department. During his 50 years at the high school, he assumed many roles including Administrative Assistant for Student Affairs in 1971 and Vice Principal in 1983 before assuming his current role as Principal in 1990. Over the decades, George learned from the best, he was mentored by Dr. Philip O. Coakley, James R. Savage, and John P. Piccirilli. A total of 51 years in education, 50 spent in Norwood; George is truly an “educator’s educator,” and nobody loves Norwood High School more than George S. Usevich.

George has been married to his wife Dianne for 21 years. They lovingly share her four children, nine grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

For all of these reasons, and to celebrate excellence in Norwood education, the Friends of St. Nick is proud to honor George S. Usevich as our Person of the Year.
