A Norwood native, Thomas “Tommy” Concannon represents all that is good about our town. Tommy attended Norwood schools until he enrolled at B.C. High, graduating in 1956. He then headed off to Worcester, where he attended and graduated from the College of the Holy Cross with an accounting degree in 1960. He started his professional career as an accountant for Haskins and Sells, then one of the national “Big 8” accounting firms.
It did not take Tommy long to realize that his heart wasn’t quite in to being a CPA, so he opted to go into business for himself. He purchased the then “White’s” in Walpole, changing the establishment’s name to “Tom’s Cabin” in 1962. He went on to purchase, own and operate two of the most successful businesses in the town of Norwood – the Irish Heaven in 1964 and Concannon’s Village in 1972. And, the rest as they say, is history!
Tommy would make the smartest decision of his life in marrying his lovely wife Mary Ann. The Concannon’s would welcome four fine boys, now men, in Tom, Eamon, Brian and Brendan. Tom and Mary Ann are the proud grandparents of 9 beautiful grandchildren.
Over the years, Concannon’s Village has been the site of many memorable events. Hundreds of weddings. Countless fundraisers. Anyone who approached Tommy for help was always accommodated. Tommy welcomed every person that had an event to raise funds for a good cause, including the Friends of St. Nick over 20 years ago. Organizations like the NHS Boosters, the Mayo Association, Roscommon Club, Sligo Club and the Friends of Matt Brown are among just a few that have also benefited from the generosity of our honoree !
For all of these reasons, the Friends of St. Nick are proud to honor Tommy Concannon as our Person of the Year!
