The Norwood Elks, Lodge No. 1124
The Elks mission at its core is about promotion of welfare and community enhancement. The Fraternal Order was founded “to promote and practice the four cardinal virtues of Charity, Justice, Brotherly Love and Fidelity.” Here in Norwood and across the United States the Elks Lodges are more than just buildings, they are a gathering spot for families, organizations, and the community at large.
The Norwood Lodge was founded on June 23, 1908 by twenty six men and today there are over 600 members. The Winslow Ave property, known as Elks Park, is home to baseball and soccer fields, horseshoe pits and bocce courts. It represents a gathering place both inside and out.
The Norwood Elks hosts events big and small but it does so much more under the radar. Over the past ten years alone the Elks have made contributions upwards of $60,000 to organizations here in Norwood like the Norwood Food Pantry, SNARC, Norwood Senior Center, Coakley Middle School and Veterans causes. They do small things that make a huge difference like placing flowers on veterans’ graves on Memorial Day Weekend. They have annual scholarships for graduating students, make donations through their dictionary program and actively work on promotion of drug awareness.
